To ensure the Roof Step as an elevated stepway is installed in the correct manner.

This specification covers the site installation of Roof Step installed ALONG THE SHEET RIDGE.



  1. Stepway panel

  2. Fixing brackets 


    The elevated bracket is supplied as a sub assembly and consists of:

  1. 2 profiled clamps

  2. 2 x 18mm rivets


     Hoist the stepway up onto the roof sheets.


    This may be done by a crane if one is available (Use of crane procedure must be followed) or by hoisting rope over the edge of the building (Use of hosting ropes procedure must be followed).

    • Care must be taken not to damage the Roof Step when lifting
    • Care must be taken not to damage the side or edge of the building when lifting
    • Preapproved storage positions must be obtained for positioning on the roof
  • Adequate protection must be afforded the roof sheets 

Lay the stepway out on the roof.
The stepway must be loosely laid out on the roof in a position adjacent to its final position. This stepway must be used when marking and setting out the final position of the walkway to reduce the impact of the roof traffic.

Mark out the bracket positions.
In consultation with the main contractor determine the correct positions for the brackets.
Use a chalk line to mark out and ensure lines are straight and parallel.
Consider obstacles and walkway junctions when positioning the brackets.

Fitting the brackets
Open the clamps so the fit over the roof sheet profile.
Position the clamps according to the markings.
Tighten the clamps finger tight. Once a line of clamps are positioned and you are satisfied with their positioning tighten the clamps.

Position the stepway panels
Place the panels on top of the brackets.
Once a section of panels are in position manipulate them to produce the most satisfying layout.

Fixing the stepway panels.
Once the panels are in the best possible position, find the best position for the rivet, drill through the stringer and fix the stepway to the bracket.

The position of the stepway will be determined by the main contractor under instruction from the engineer or architect. The stepways are best positioned as close as possible to rafters or purlins but this may vary depending on the installation requirements.
The stepways must be fitted either with a bracket spacing of 1000mm


  1. The last bracket must not be more than 150mm form the end of the walkway.

  2. All Tee junctions must be as close as possible.

  3. Stepways may overlap on back flashing but they must be fixed into position at mid point using a bonded bracket.

  4. Stepways that end on edge flashing must be neatly finished and must not protrude over the edge or into gutters.

  5. Stepways either side of a ridge cap or gutter must be aligned to the closest ridge. Stepways that do not align must be brought to the attention of the main contractor.

  6. Stepway ends on either side of a ridge cap must be as close as possible to the same distance from the center of the ridge cap. If this is not possible approval must be sought from the main contractor.

  7. Ensure gaps between stepway panels is no more than 5mm
